I’m kinda new to the soccer scene, having attended my first Seattle Sounders match only this year. Wow. The fandom rivals anything I saw while living in Denver, which is truly a sporting town. And you can’t beat the colors. Electric. I still need some time to understand the chants, the claps, and the rules, especially that adding time thing at the end. But it’s fun, and apparently quite civilized compared to the soccer experience in other parts of the world. At least that’s what the Europeans with whom I’ve watched two recent matches tell me. The season runs nine months of the year (February-October), so there’s always an opportunity to catch some Sounders action. I’m not sure I’ll be wearing that long, warm scarf in July, though.
